Myers: Say goodbye to Tebowmania, Tim doesn't have a prayer at NFL starting gig

Tim Tebow, who turns the Broncos around two seasons ago and wins a playoff game, could turn out to be a man without an NFL home after a season on the sidelines in New York.

Tim Tebow is expected to be one-and-done with the Jets, and now that the potential landing spot in his hometown of Jacksonville is officially closed, the NFL may have seen the last of Tebow Mania.

Just a little over one year ago, Tebow threw a short pass over the middle that DeMaryius Thomas turned into an 80-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime that allowed the Broncos to beat the Steelers in the wild-card round.

HOMETOWN ZERO: NEW GM SAYS JAGS DON'T WANT TEBOW EITHER

That is likely to be the No. 1 highlight of Tebow?s career forever and always. He may have been nothing more than a shooting star.

Can he be done at the age of 25?

?I think it could be over,? an NFL source said Thursday night. ?He can go on with his life successfully without football.?

At his introductory news conference in Jacksonville on Thursday, the new Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said of Tebow: ?I can?t imagine a scenario in which he?ll be a Jacksonville Jaguar ? even if he?s released.?

Of course, it?s tampering to be talking about another team?s players, even if the Jets have almost zero intention of bringing back Tebow, who has two years left on his contract. They will look to trade him before they cut him. Unless there is a mystery team ? can Tebow run a slower-paced version of the Redskins? read option offense while RG3 recovers from knee surgery? ? it?s hard to figure where he goes next.

The Jaguars were the only team other than the Jets who were interested in trading for Tebow last March after the Broncos signed Peyton Manning. Tebow picked the Jets because he thought he could beat out Mark Sanchez, but the Jets used Tebow sparingly in the Wildcat. When Sanchez was benched, Rex Ryan jumped third-stringer Greg McElroy over Tebow.

The 2012 season was a completely wasted year for Tebow. He threw six passes, ran 32 times and accounted for 141 yards of offense.

Tebow is considered a good football player but a lousy quarterback, which means he would have a better chance of sticking around the NFL as a tight end or fullback. But he insists he?s a quarterback.

Simply because of his tremendous popularity and not because of anything he says or does, Tebow has become a lightning rod.

?Here?s the reason it could be over for him: the distraction,? the source said. ?It?s not that someone wouldn?t like to look at him, but the distraction he brings to an organization is not worth it. Now you?ve got two places he?s been and both are adamant that he can?t play quarterback. Adamant. Both paid a heckuva price to kick the tires.?

Late last month, ESPN reported it was a virtual certainty that Tebow, who owner Shad Khan sought last season, would be with the Jaguars in 2013. Even if it was only speculation Khan wanted Tebow to help take the tarp off the empty seats this season, he obviously wanted Caldwell more than he wanted the quarterback.

?The only team that could do it is New England, because they have isolated themselves,? the source said.

?The guy that drafted him (Josh McDaniels) is there, and maybe Bill Belchick says, ?We can run the Wildcat package with him.? I think the kid is going to say, ?I?m not doing the Wildcat package. That?s not who I am. I want to compete as a quarterback. If I can?t compete, I don?t want to be on the team.?

?I think he?s done being made fun of and laughed at. It is very painful for him.?

The Broncos traded him, the Jets will try to unload him and the Jaguars don?t want him. Tim Tebow could be done in the NFL.
